Description
Brita™️ Cappuccino Espresso Coffee Machine Water Filter System. Designed to connect to your espresso coffee machine’s water inlet. Features a Brita™️ Purity C cartridge filtration system for reduction of water hardness, chemicals, sediment, and bad taste/odour.
Brita are industry leaders in coffee water filtration. Their Purity C range features a combination of media types to address contaminants which can negatively effect coffee taste or odour.
The PURITY C filter cartridges also reduce the hardness of your water, dramatically slowing the rate of lime scale and gypsum deposit build-up within your espresso machine.
PURITY C filters will retain a portion of the calcium, magnesium and metal ions in the water to ensure your coffee has plenty of character and brightness.
The filter material not only reduces cloudiness and organic pollutants, but also the level of contaminants that interfere with the smell and taste of coffee, like chlorine residues.
The head includes a flushing function which allows the flushing of filters and saves time and messy purging of filter systems that are connected to machines.
The Brita C Head system 0-70% bypass can be varied to give you total control of your water hardness and quality which allows you to make your coffee stand out from your competitors when using the C Quell ST filters. This will allow you to set the hardness bypass so you get the maximum capacity from your filters.
The Brita Finest cartridges are to be set at 0% bypass for total hardness reduction and the optimum coffee experience. Ideal for both copper and stainless steel boilers. Will also remove the same contaminates as the C Quell ST filters.
No matter what the bypass % is set at with both the Quell ST or Finest cartridges all the water travels through the sediment and carbon parts of the cartridge to ensure that dirt and chlorine taste and odours are reduced.

Hardness Reduction Filter Options For Coffee Machines
In the filter options above, there are a variety of filters to choose from.
The main difference between each filter is
- Their physical size
- Hardness and chlorine reduction capacity
- The type of hardness they can address.
For Brita, the smaller the number on the filter, the smaller it’s physical size and capacity. A C5o is a smaller filter C150 for example.
The Brita Quell ST filters reduces carbonate hardness. This includes calcium, magnesium, and iron carbonates/bicarbonates. Carbonate hardness is also referred to as Temporary Hardness, as the minerals easily precipitate from the water to form limescale.
Carbonate hardness is the primary cause of concern for most espresso machines as limescale build-up can damage solenoids, block water lines, and coat boilers. In severe cases, it can damage or destroy espresso machines.
One major advantage of the Quell ST is that it
The Brita Finest filters reduce total hardness. This refers to all of the mineral and metal ions in the water. This includes carbonate minerals, chlorides, nitrates and sulfates.
Reduction of total hardness can be useful for:
- Reducing the corrosiveness of the water
- Reducing salty taste to the water
- Protecting a stainless steel boiler or stainless components from pitting from high chloride levels.
Which one should I buy?
We usually recommend the Brita Quell ST if:
- Your water has minor to moderate hardness
- Scale build-up is the primary concern.
- Chloride levels aren’t too high
- Adjustable hardness reduction is required to dial in preferred flavour profile
We usually recommend the Brita Finest if:
- Your water has moderate to high hardness
- Scale build-up and corrosion from high total hardness is of concern.
- The espresso machine has a stainless steel boiler (which may be vulnerable to pitting)
- The espresso machine is very expensive and total hardness reduction is preferred for complete protection

Brita Coffee Kit – Installation Guide
- Turn off the water supply and release water pressure by opening up a cold tap.
- If using the John Guest inline connection ASV (½” x ½” x ¼” shut-off Tee), check to make sure which one of the
braided lines or taps under the sink is the cold water line. - Undo the cold water hose of the wall tap or fitting, fit the ASV shut-off tap and reconnect the cold water line to
the other end. Or if using the ½” BSP F-thread to tube adaptor, screw it onto the cold water supply. - Cut a short piece tubing to from the shut off tap or adaptor to the inlet side of the grey inline pressure limiting
valve. Check the flow direction on the valve. - Screw the filter system to the inside of cupboard leaving room under the system to replace the cartridge or it can
stand up by itself on the base of the cupboard, leaving it loose to make removing easier. Also leave the plastic
tubing long enough to bring the system out onto the floor as it simplifies access for filter changes and system
servicing. - Run the tubing from the outlet of pressure limiting valve to the inlet on the filter system, push the tubing all the
way in then pull out to lock. - Fit the coffee machine inlet water supply line to the outlet side of filter.
- Check all connections.
- Turn the cold water supply on.
- Your filter head has a push slide flushing lever that will allow you to flush the filter into a bucket to remove
carbon fines and air from the new filter. - Turn the cold water supply on while holding the flush valve on.
- Flush the new filter for 2-3 minutes before turning off the flush valve and check for leaks.
- You may have some air bubbles in the water for a few days, this will go away. Set the filter head to the desired bypass setting according to your filter type and water quality.
